Five Best Portland Thrift Shops to Find Furniture for Your New Home

Furnishing your new home doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. Thrift stores can offer an affordable alternative to the high cost of designer stores. Finding good quality, gently used furniture is often a matter of showing up at the right place and time. Take a look at these five great thrift shops that can help you make your home a showplace on a small budget.

1. William Temple House Thrift Store

The William Temple House is located at 2230 NW Glisan St, Portland, OR. Inside you can find a variety of household items, including a good collection of furniture. This store has a reputation for hard to find and unique things. The sales staff is friendly and approachable. Watch for the color-coded sales tags to score 50 to 75 percent off select items. This place is truly a win-win: In addition to finding some very good pieces, you are also helping provide counseling and physiological services to the needy.

2. Rerun

Rerun is a departure from traditional thrift stores in that it is mainly a consignment shop. The furniture you’ll find here are items that owners considered too valuable to donate but can’t command new prices for. The items are very nice and have been pre-approved before sale for quality control. The stores themselves are relatively small but very cute. You’ll find Rerun locations at 707 NE Fremont St and 6940 NE Sandy Blvd. in Portland.

3. Community Warehouse Estate Store

The Community Warehouse Estate Store, found at 3969 NE Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, specializes in antique and retro furnishings. You’ll also find rugs, bedding, and China here. What you won’t find is a lot of junk. Furniture is very high quality, and the prices are reasonable. The store itself appears high end, with items being well organized. Watch for sales on various weekdays to maximize savings.

4. Portland TC Resale & Donation Center

At Portland TC Resale and Donation Center, you find good used furniture at decent prices. Most of the finds will be of average quality, but a few treasures do pop up now and then. The store is clean and well organized. The Christian based ministry of this store supports drug challenged teens with residential and life skills support. There are two locations: 82 near Foster and in Oak Grove on McLaughlin and Courtney and 82 near Foster and in Oak Grove on McLaughlin and Courtney. You’ll usually find more furniture at the Oak Grove location.

5. Better Bargains Thrift Store

Better Bargains is definitely one to add to your furniture shopping stops. While not as well organized as some of the others, it’s worth the effort to dig around. They offer some of the lowest pricing on good quality items that are in reasonable condition. Well known for their half off days, you can also find discounts of around 25% on non-sale days. Better Bargains can be found at 10209 NE Sandy Blvd, Portland.

If you find some great steals on furniture at one of these local institutions and need help getting it to your new home, give us a shout. We help Portland residents find affordable movers by the hour for jobs both small and large.
